APPLICATION FOR THE DR. ELIZABETH A. HAYS TRAVEL AWARD

2027 FLORIDA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES ANNUAL MEETING

 

PURPOSE OF THE HAYS TRAVEL AWARD

The Florida Academy of Sciences (FAS) provides travel support to eligible college and university students who have been accepted to present their research at the FAS Annual Meeting. This program is supported by the Dr. Elizabeth A. Hays Travel Award Fund.

Awards of approximately $100–$200, based on demonstrated financial need and available funds, may be used to help cover:

  • Travel expenses

  • Lodging

  • Meals

In addition, registration fees are waived for Hays Travel Award recipients.

Award recipients will be notified early enough to allow them to register for the Annual Meeting by the early registration deadline, with or without payment of the registration fee.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Friday, February 12, 2027

Applications must be submitted by the deadline and must include:

  1. Notification of abstract acceptance for an oral or poster presentation at the 2027 FAS Annual Meeting.

  2. A brief essay explaining:

    • The significance of attending and presenting at the FAS Annual Meeting.

    • Why financial assistance is needed to attend the meeting.

All applications will be reviewed by the FAS Awards Committee. Information submitted as part of this application will be treated as confidential.

Award recipients will be announced along with other student award recipients for the Annual Meeting.

If I receive a Dr. Elizabeth A. Hays Travel Award, I agree to:

  • Attend and present the research described in my accepted abstract at the 2027 Florida Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting.
  • Use the award funds only for their intended purposes related to attending the Annual Meeting.
  • Return any funds that are not used for their intended purposes, if requested by the Florida Academy of Sciences.
  • Understand that failure to attend and present my research may result in the forfeiture of the award and the registration fee waiver.
  • Participate in a required group photograph of award recipients at a time determined by the Awards Committee during the 2027 FAS Annual Meeting, preferably following the Medalist Talk.
