Grants-in-Aid of Undergraduate Research (GIAUR)

Florida Academy of Sciences funds its program of Grants-in-Aid of Undergraduate Research from the Florida Endowment for the Sciences. The GIAUR program awards research grants of $2,000 for undergraduate STEM students at colleges and universities in Florida that are officially designated as Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs). The program is intended to broaden the Academy’s role in encouraging research among students and their faculty mentors who are underrepresented in Academy membership, on its Council, at its annual meetings, and in its peer-reviewed journal Florida Scientist. Up to five institutions may receive grants annually.

Application material is available on the Academy’s website by 30 April each year for the subsequent academic year. Applications, due on 15 June, are evaluated by a committee of Academy members who are unaffiliated with the applicant institutions. Grants are provided to the selected institutions by 31 July. Recipient institutions are expected to submit end-of-year reports by the following 31 May.

Grants are made to the institutions, not to individuals.  Each campus is expected to select a liaison to oversee management of the funds, to communicate with the Academy, and to prepare the final report.
