Florida Endowment for the Sciences

The Academy’s Council established the Florida Endowment for the Sciences in 1986 to provide regular income in support of the Academy’s purposes. Restricted gifts, life memberships, and patron memberships form the principal of the Endowment and are held in perpetuity. Funds are invested with and managed by Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley. The first draw from the Endowment was taken in 2008, and annual distributions are now drawn from the accrued internal growth. The fund presently supports two grant programs: Grants-in-Aid of Undergraduate Research; Sabbatical Travel Grants for Faculty.

General guidance for the Endowment is given in Article IX of the Bylaws , which provides for oversight by three trustees. Trustees report quarterly to Council, and Council votes on the annual distribution based on a spending policy adopted in 2010.

The trustees currently are Academy members George Dooris, Dean Martin, and Norine Noonan (Chair).

In addition to donations to the Florida Endowment for the Sciences, those who desire to include the Academy in their estate planning or to make non-cash gifts are asked to contact Trustee Chair Dr. Noonan at flacademyofsciences@gmail.com.
