Biological Sciences is a very broad field ranging from the study of microscopic cells to complete ecosystems. This comprehensive field of the study of life examines the structure, growth, function, and evolution of living organisms, as well as their interactions with the environment. Key aspects of Biological Sciences include the study of all living organisms from simple to complex; research conducted at multiple levels of organization from molecular to ecosystem using laboratory, fieldwork, and observational methods; and a foundation of basic principles regarding the definition of a cell, the evolutionary process, and the role of heredity and genes. This field is critical for understanding issues, such as environmental conservation, agriculture, and human health.
This list is not exhaustive, and any topic bearing biological sciences relevance will be duly considered.
Cell and Molecular Biology
Physiology of Organisms
Virology
Bacteriology
Algal Biology
Protists and Fungi
Plant and Animal Biology
Marine Biology
Limnology/Freshwater Biology
Zoology
Genetics
Conservation Biology
Ecology
Other Biological Science-related concepts
Given the broad scope of Biological Sciences, some overlap with other FAS sections is unavoidable. For annual meetings, the final assignment of submitted abstracts will be made in close consultation with the Chairs of relevant sections to ensure appropriate placement. Depending on the abstracts accepted for an annual meeting, Biological Sciences Section sessions will typically be organized by discipline.

In addition to pursuing a career in academia, there are many opportunities for those with Biological Sciences or related degrees. Examples include public agencies, non-profit organizations, and in the private sector. Many of these organizations offer internship opportunities, continuing and graduate education reimbursement benefits, as well as possible funding opportunities for research projects. Listed below are links to many of the public agencies and non-profit organizations (private-sector firms are not listed since there are so many). Note that this list is not exhaustive; for example, links to local public agencies (e.g., cities, counties) are not listed.
